Seaside dreams

Greetings from quarantine!

Here's a little (6" x 6") abstract that reminds me of days spent at the beach. Summer is almost here, and soon I'll actually BE at the beach — a socially-distant bay beach on Cape Cod where I spend a solo painting week every year.

Simple things

You'd think that, with all of this free time on my hands, I'd be painting furiously all day, every day. But it's not that simple. Calling to me are all the chores and projects I swore I'd take care of "when I have more time".

I'm sewing cloth face masks for neighbors and others who need them; I'm playing word games on my phone for many more hours than I care to admit; I'm walking sometimes.

The inspiration isn't always there, but the effort of opening up my iPad and scratching out something new is often the most satisfying thing I do all day. Here's a scene from my kitchen table, done on the iPad.

Peace in the Time of Pandemonium

Well, the actual title says "Guestroom", not "Peace". Things are now slightly more peaceful around here, as we've self-quarantined for five weeks now. At first, I slept in my son's old room, while my husband and I kept our distance after a trip to another state. Flying home was nerve-wracking, as the situation had changed drastically in just a week.

Please stay home and stay well. Enjoy this little spot of comfort and relaxation.

Working From Home, Part 2

Here's a small (5"H x 6"W) oil on wood that I think is finished. I don't typically paint still lifes, but these aren't typical times.

Working From Home

Well, I ALWAYS work from home, but now it's official. I've made it into the studio every day since my return from vacation, and I'll post some sketches here. Funny how this enforced isolation is serving to loosen up and improve the work that I, and other artists I know, are doing.

Late Fall in New England

Heading home one late November afternoon, I bit the bullet and got out of the warm car to absorb this scene and plan how I'd paint it. It took me a couple of months but I have said what I wanted to say. Chilly here in Massachusetts, but there's an appeal to the limited palette of bare trees and gray skies. Enjoy!

Whose Woods?

I'm not exactly sure, but they could be anywhere in the northern US. Fun to do quick, palette-knife sketches (this is from a photo) and see where they go!

Back to France!

I've been awarded a two-week Artist-in-Residency at Chateau d'Orquevaux, this June. An exciting opportunity to create without interruption or distraction. It looks amazing, doesn't it! Totally in line with my love of landscape and old buildings!

More details to follow!
